since i don't keep a diary or journal, i thought it'd be neat to do a little year in review with some of the photos i took in 2006. i hope you enjoy.
january
nothing newsworthy for myself in january, but i did manage to come away with a few good images.
by far, my most popular photo of january, although my photo of the north pier lighthouse, and my personal favorite were also top contenders.
february
february saw me making my first trip down to pittsburgh for an exposure show. it featured the fantastic work of btezra. i will make more trips throughout the year, but due to the shows being on friday evenings, i am unable to attend as many as i want to.
my most viewed photo ever on flickr, with almost 1000 views. another personal favorite of mine, but two others (one, two) also made my list of favorites.
february also saw the implosion of a landmark in erie, the koehler building smokestack.
march
the first meeting of the erie bloggers takes place, and i find myself liking everyone who attended. march also included the start of my involvement with the duck project.
april
my baby turned six years old, and football season started up (women's football that is). i volunteer to take some photographs of the games, and learn a whole lot (while spending a whole lot on equipment rentals).
not much else happened in april, but i managed to come away with one photo i really liked, while a few others enjoyed looking at a spider.
may
may brought beautiful weather and some great scenes down at presque isle state park.
a seemingly innocent photo of a house, became a popular choice among those who visited my photos (along with a simple moon shot), but i was most pleased with a non-action shot i took at the end of a football game.
june
lacking inspiration, i decide to start taking photos that are blatant rip-offs of other photographers. my first attempt was quite well-liked.
a couple images (one, two) were well received, despite being processed in a strange way, providing some unique results.
july
i made it to the front page of flickr's "interestingness" with a sunrise photo, that only came about because i couldn't sleep.
july also brought several opportunities to photograph fireworks, and i did just that. i managed to come away with my best and favorite photograph of fireworks ever.
august
august brought the opportunity to actually make some (minor) money with my little hobby... weddings. the gracious erica ropp took a chance on me and hired me to photographer her wedding, my first. turned out to be a fun (and tiring) day, and the weeks after were tough to get through all the photos. it turned out to be fairly successful, as the bride said she was pleased with the outcome.
august was also tough for me to get out and take photos, and this seemingly simple shot up the steeple of a church proved to be quite interesting for the users of flickr. it is still currently my most favorited photo of all time.
september
september brought another wedding, which in turned made for a busy few weeks afterwards. i learned a lot from the first wedding, and used that knowledge with this one, which ended up with a few more quality shots. the bride also said that she was happy with the results, so i suppose i did my job.
i also passed the 10,000 photo mark with my camera, the canon eos 20D.
october
when it rains, it pours. and it poured in october. first, i get featured on the front page of the local newspaper for taking photos of my duck. then, i end up getting a bunch of my photos from the football games i shot included in a promotional package that was circulated to quite a few number of people. and finally, a silly (and technically, not good) snapshot i took of my sister a few months back landed her a starring role in a television commercial for a casino.
october also included getting yelled at from across the street by a woman in my neighborhood for taking photos of leaves, which she mistook as being someone's house.
november
november brought my first photography gig other than a wedding. a local lighting company asked me to take photos of their client's houses for their portfolio on their new website. it's still ongoing, and has been interesting to see some of these houses, which are incredibly beautiful.
great weather for november brough plenty of time to take photos, including a couple night shots (one, two), and a few sunlit scenes around town (one, two, three).
december
december brought two days that yielded a group of great photos (in my eyes at least). the first was a fantastic sunset, where the colors went from yellow to orange to darker orange and finally to red.
the second day was a jaunt to find the cemetery at the pennsylvania soldiers and sailors home. it was very interesting reading the names and dates of those buried there. it brought another one of my favorite photographs from the year, along with two others (one, two).
i was also asked to photograph a middle school wrestling tournament, which so far has generated a whopping $14 in sales.
here's hoping for an even better 2007! thanks to all who looked at my photos, and to those who made comments and offered feedback.
