wow... what an experience. my first wedding, and i think it was a success! 967 photos later, and this came out as my favorite.

saturday, august 12, 2006, mr. alan bickel and ms. erica ropp got married at unity in edinboro, pa.

i couldn't have asked for a better couple to deal with. they were so laid back and cooperative, and didn't mind me shoving my camera in their faces for 10 hours. it was an honor to do their wedding.

i'd first like to thank erica (and alan) for choosing me to be their photographer. my first wedding and they took a chance on me. they did the easy part, now it's up to me to provide them with a few captures of their special day.

i won't lie... shooting conditions were tough. i used a borrowed flash unit and shot in aperture mode (ranging from f/3.5 to f/5.6) pretty much the whole day. inside the church was ok, but even with the flash, my shutter speeds ranged from around 1/10s to 1/60s. since i didn't really know where to stand (or crouch) most of the ceremony, and not wanting to get in the way or take away from the important people on the altar, i used my zoom lens 55-200mm) on my rebel xt.

outside the church was fantastic lighting. a beautiful day with the sun shining and perfectly blue skies, i couldn't ask for a better situation (hmmm... second time i couldn't ask for something better :) )

on the way to the reception, i nearly crashed into another car as i was trying to shoot outside my front window to the bride and groom's ride (or "whip" as the youngsters like to call it).

at the reception hall (the masonic temple), lightning was even worse. a lot of the dancing shots have a blur to them, but a lot of them look really cool that way.

one problem i did have at the reception was this curious looking fellow following me around, taking almost the exact shot as me. turns out it was amanda's fiance, nick. this guy kept trying to get me to go talk to the bartender (who was quite hot i must say). i told him i'd go home and grow some balls and try later.

one recommendation for wanna-be wedding photographers.... make sure you take LOTS of memory cards (or film). i had three 2.0 gb cards and filled them to the brim. i had to switch off shooting RAW and go to JPG just to save some space. .. or i guess you could just take less pictures... but with a photogenic group such as these people, it's hard not to :)

(by the way, i did talk to the hottie bartender a little bit, but as always, i came up with the good lines after it was too late. baby steps, right?)
